Maria Bykina is a film editor based in Toronto and takes pride in bringing nuanced stories to life. She is drawn to stories that depict overall themes of human connection and her editing choices are shaped by the desire to capture subtle truths about life. Maria has collaborated with numerous award-winning directors and has edited in over 8 different languages spanning feature docs, short films, music videos and commercials. Her work has screened at CIFF, AIFF, Reelworld, NFFTY, Canadian Film Fest and more. More than just a partner in the edit suite, Maria loves to get involved in the script and production stage, and campions films she works on throughout the festival submission process. She is eager to explore non-linear storytelling and work on genre films like horror and psychological thrillers.
Maria is an alumna of the Canadian Film Centre’s Editor’s Lab and has recently received a nomination for a Canadian Cinema Editors Award for her work on Thorn.
